ABOUT US
JALALABAD ASSOCIATION OF TORONTO is a not for profit social welfare association established in 1992. The organization serves individuals of Sylheti origin (from the districts of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar & Habiganj) living in Toronto, Canada, providing a platform for them to connect, maintain their cultural heritage, and promote social well-being and solidarity.
The name "Jalalabad" comes from the name of the eminent Sufi Muslim saint Hazrat Shah Jalal (R) who came from Yemen to illuminate the Sylhet region with the religion of Islam and had a great influence on the people of this region.
JALALABAD ASSOCIATION OF TORONTO regularly organizes events for its members, such as cultural programs, annual picnic, and community discussions. It offers support and cooperation in education, social development, leadership development, community services, advocacy, and more. The association also responds to any humanitarian crisis and extends assistance to any calamities or disasters. JALALABAD ASSOCIATION OF TORONTO has a Zakat fund in which the association receives Zakat contributions and distributes them among eligible persons in the society.
The organization has a membership program that includes both life membership and general membership. JALALABAD ASSOCIATION OF TORONTO encourages and welcomes new members every year for the vibrancy of its activities.
